Have you ever felt unseen?

Saturday afternoon we were at a restaurant we frequently visit.  We were at our table for a while, and no one came. My husband asked me if I could see our server anywhere, which I did not.  We waited and felt unseen. Other tables had their servers handing out menus and taking drink orders. We waited.

When I could see our server it was just a glimpse as he was moving around in the workers area.  Then he began to come our way with a tray filled with exactly what he knew we wanted.

He was in the background preparing for us, even though he did not come to our table, and did not speak to us in greetings.  His tray had my raspberry unsweet tea, Greg unsweet tea about an inch from the top and a glass of water.  There were even the slices of avocado that Greg adds to his salad and the salad plates for our visit to the salad bar.

You see our server knew what we would need and where we could not see him, he was working for us.

This made me think of how God so often is in the background taking care of the needs that we have but we can’t see him.

He had the ram climbing the mountain when He knew that Abraham would need an offering instead of his son. (Genesis 22)

God closed the mouth of the lions when Daniel was thrown in their den. (Daniel 6)

God saw Peter in prison and caused an earthquake that released him. (Acts 12:1-19)

El Roi is first noted at the “God Who Sees Me” by Sarah’s maidservant Hagar when she ran away into the desert. (Genesis 16:1-14)

Hagar’s story describes God’s compassion and attentiveness.  It emphasizes that God sees and cares for all individuals, especially those who may feel overlooked or forgotten.

El Roi is one of the names of God that describes His character.  As we learn more about His character we can trust Him because He is consistent.

Knowing God as your Jehovah Jireh (the name Abraham gave Him on the mountain because God saw his need and provided). He is the Lord my Provider.

There have been many times that the Lord has provided the desire of my heart.

You can always know that God sees you, Psalm 139 tells us all the places we may try to hide from God, but He is there.  He knows you so well, that he knows the thoughts you have and the words before you speak.
