Every store I enter is playing Christmas music and I start humming the songs even when I get home. One song that has really resonated with me this year is the classic “Joy to the World” especially the line “Let every heart prepare Him room.” Paired with the new worship song we are singing these days by Elevation; Make Room I am brought to ponder the room in our hearts and how we need to make room for Him to do whatever He wants to.

The heart of the Christmas message lies in worshiping the King, who came not in grandeur but in the simplicity of a manger. The narrative challenges us to consider the state of our hearts and whether we have made room for the Lord, not just during the holiday season but throughout the year.

Making room for the Lord involves more than a fleeting acknowledgment; it requires a deliberate and ongoing effort to prioritize our relationship with Him. It requires surrender as the Elevation song’s lyrics says. This may involve clearing away the clutter of worldly concerns, letting go of grievances, and creating space for prayer, meditation, and reflection on Jesus.

MAKE ROOM Lyrics

Here is where I lay it down
Every burden, every crown
This is my surrender
This is my surrender
Here is where I lay it down
Every lie and every doubt
This is my surrender
And I will make room for You
To do whatever You want to

Practical Steps to Make Room:

Create Quiet Moments:

Set aside time each day for prayer, meditation, or simply being still in the presence of the Lord and listening.

Reflect on Gratitude:

Cultivate an attitude of gratitude by counting your blessings and acknowledging the gift of Christ in your life.

Acts of Kindness:

Embrace the season of giving by performing acts of kindness, generosity, and charity, reflecting the love of Christ.

As the familiar strains of “Joy to the World” echo through the Christmas season and we experience the new worship song “Make Room”. Let us ask Him to have his way in our lives, because His way is better!

May this holiday season be a time of intentional preparation, creating space for the transformative presence of Christ in our lives, and spreading the joy of His love to all we encounter.
